Jewellery & everyday products

Jewellery is one of the PGM applications most familiar to consumers. Platinum is valued in fine jewellery for its natural white colour, high purity, density, strength and resistance to wear and corrosion. It is widely used for engagement rings, wedding bands and gemstone settings. Palladium is also used as a lightweight, durable jewellery metal.

PGMs also contribute to many everyday products, often as catalysts or specialist materials in their manufacture. Examples include silicones, synthetic rubber, ethylene absorbers and forensic staining.
